Background information
The goal of the course is to improve family therapist’s skills and qualifications for working as a couple psychotherapist. Besides that, the goal is to make psychotherapists, who already have qualifications for a specialist level family therapist, competent to offer couple psychotherapy as approved rehabilitative psychotherapy.

- Opening seminar, 1 day. Defining couple relationships and couple psychotherapy. Attachment theory in adult relationships.
- Psychoanalytic couple psychotherapy, 2 days
- Emotion focused couple therapy, 2 days
- Violence and couple therapy, 1 day
- Treatment of depression in couple therapy, 1 day
- Childlessness in couple psychotherapy, 1 day
- Serious illness in couple psychotherapy, 1 day
- Infidelity in couple psychotherapy, 1 day
- New research in couple psychotherapy and couple therapy based on research, 1 day
- Gay and lesbian relationships in couple psychotherapy, 1 day
- Cultural diversity in couple psychotherapy, 1 day
- Conclusion seminar, 1 day.
The program includes contact teaching and distance learning: contact study (14 days in Malaga, Spain. One week in the spring semester and one week in the fall semester), small group study, independent study, individual assignments, and a brief dissertation. Tests on required reading are taken either in small groups or in literature examinations. Eighteen students are admitted in the order of registration/enrolment.
Costs: 1600 € (+vat)
